Celia Hatton

5Based in New York City, violist Celia Hatton is establishing herself around the globe.  She performs in South Korea for the New York in Chuncheon Festival and served as Associate Principal in the Santo Domingo Music Festival in the Dominican Republic. After substituting with Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, she was selected to hold a Fellowship position 2015-2016.

Hatton won Honorable Mention in the National Symphony’s Young Soloist Competition, and with her former string trio won the Mozart Chamber Music Competition culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall.  She has appeared in concert at the Kennedy Center, Vatican, Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Apollo Theatre, Tanglewood Music Center, and Jazz at Lincoln Center in collaboration with Paquito D’Rivera.

She gave the world premiere of three string quartets at Tanglewood Center as well as “Twine”, a piece written for solo viola and solo dancer for the Periapsis Music and Dance company. She has toured nationally with conductor-less chamber orchestras Sphinx Virtuosi and Shattered Glass. As a founding member of Shattered Glass, she has commissioned new works, held education workshop residencies, and recorded for Warner Bros.

In 2015 she held a fellowship at Tanglewood Music Center working with Emanuel Ax, Ian Swenson, and Norman Fischer. She has also attended Music Academy of the West and AIMS, Graz. While serving as Performance Associate at the Bowdoin International Music Festival, she performed chamber works with faculty members and held teaching assistantships to Carol Rodland and Karen Dreyfus. She is a member of Hudson Valley Philharmonic, and served as Guest Principal Viola for the Amarillo Symphony.

She made her first television appearance while still in high school performing in a piano quartet on NBC’s Today Show in conjunction with NPR. Since then, she has performed on Saturday Night LiveTonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Letterman, and Good Morning America working with Justin Timberlake, Bastille, Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, and First Aid Kit. She has performed with Stevie Wonder on several occasions. Hatton can be heard on the 2012 film Robot and Frank, and the modern movie remake ofAnnie.

Hatton received her Professional Studies and Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Karen Dreyfus as the recipient of a William Randolph Hearst Scholarship. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree with Kim Kashkashian at New England Conservatory receiving a Presidential Distinction Award Scholarship and Frances O. and Elizabeth Hunnewell Scholarship.
